Hello,
Foundationers!
Here's the
News.
Thomas N.
Foster's Harquahala Steam Engine Exhibit
may begin traveling to some of the other
Museums in our area in the coming
months. In recognition of the
Foundation's participation in the
creation of the Display materials that
accompany the exhibit, a plate bearing
our name will be displayed on this
exhibit as it journeys around the
State. Thanks, Thomas!
Steve Decker has volunteered to check
into the design and purchase of this
plate, as well as one for the door of our
Foundation's room upstairs, and some
smaller ones to place with collections we
set up in libraries and schools.
Steve found that these plaques can be
made for about $150 for the lot.
Now to figure out what to say on
them! You can help us decide at the
Foundation Board Meeting July 8th.
Genie Howell deserves
proper credit for the excellent
photography of the Symposium featured
in our previous issue. Those images
are the high point of that
Newsletter. Thanks, Genie!
The Board decided that the Foundation
should acquire a Domain Name, and it
has! It is www.AZMinFun.com, and
Harvey Jong has made a good start toward
creating a cutting edge, state of the art
website for us. Harvey is
particularly interested in taking
advantage of Java Script and Virtual
Reality techniques to display our
Specimens and Museum in rotating three
dimensional glory, and he has the tricks
to do it! Our Newsletters will be
posted on line, along with our Upcoming
Events, so we can all keep in touch
easily. I have some ideas about special
features for Registered Members Only that
may be implemented. We are also
considering emailing the newsletter out
to those members who are hooked up.
Email salty@crprod if
you would like to be included on the
Electronic news list.

We went to our
trailer at Lindco on June
5th, at 7:30 a.m. to gather treasures for
the October Family Day sale. We
took a guest with us, my daughter
Jena's teacher, Dolores Salisz.
Our Foundation has resolved to help Mrs.
Salisz build a special collection for the
students of Arrowhead School.
Dolores' concept is to have a set of
minerals that the student can handle, and
observe through a lens, to become aware
of the complexity that seemingly simple
things display on closer
inspection. I have a real feeling
for what she is driving at, don't
you? We are helping a group of
interested students nurture the seeds of
a growing Earth Science project for their
School (You can see these
hungry-to-learn young minds in the
pictures with the Raven Site
article in this issue). This will be a
pilot project, and if it is successful,
we hope to provide this kind of
assistance to other educators.
Next year's
symposium might have a talk
on Where to Find Diamonds, Emeralds
& Platinum in Arizona! Be
there or wish you were.
