Arizona Mineral and Mining Museum Foundation News

Volume 8 Number 3                                                  Spring  1999

Hello, Foundationers!

As you may recall from the Annual meeting last January, Christine and Randall Siler have made us a most generous offer. They propose to host our Foundation's World Wide Web presence on their Internet server as a gift! The only expense would be the fees for the registration of a Domain Name. There would be many advantages for us:

1.) Our Internet presence  would not need to change addresses each time you changed Newsletter Editors or I changed ISP's  (Internet Service Providers).

2.) Our sites on the free community type servers give us exposure, but without the full freedom and creativity of our own website.

3.) We could have a really cool Domain Name, like I_Got_Rocks_In_My_Head.com.

4.) We wouldn't have to hang our heads in shame when browsing the swell site Barry Murphy maintains  for the MSA at:
http://www.azminerals.com/

Send me your suggestions for our New Domain Name. Here are some ideas we have come up with so far:

  • A3MF.com
  • MineralMuse.com
  • Mineralz.com
  • AZGoodAZGold.com
  • I_Got_Rocks_In_My_Head.com.
  • The Beatles.org

(That's right, You
could do better than that, so give us your best shot! We don't know if these names are available till we try to register them, so we need lots of alternate choices.)  Domain Name registration costs $70 for the first two years, with a yearly fee of $35 thereafter.

It can be hard to find friends interested in Minerals and collecting when first starting out. Through the Internet, people all over the world are virtually right next door to Arizona's exceptional collecting localities. They won't have much trouble finding us when we open a window to them, and you know we can always use some new friends.

Marc Watson is featured in this issue of our newsletter in a fine piece by Genie Howell. Though I have not known her as well as many of you, I must say I always enjoy Marc's warm humor and interesting conversation. It is an honor to be your Editor when such a fine Lady is recognized for her
