6. Flagg Show - 2009 (January 9, 10, 11)
Phil reported that he contacted Marc Fleischer and learned that a public service announcement for the Flagg Show will run at Harkins theaters. Harvey circulated a proof print of the slide that he designed for this announcement. He also indicated that there will be a $300-$400 charge from the Harkins' production company for generating the final artwork. Phil mentioned that Marc and Sue are also working on publicity with television and print media outlets.
Harvey presented the new Flagg Show poster. The theme is Arizona Vanadinite, and the poster features four mineral specimens set on a molten ingot of vanadium steel that is being cast in the shape of the state of Arizona. He mentioned that he printed an initial batch of 10 posters on matte paper and 40 posters on plain paper. He encouraged members to take some posters.
Lavone Archer indicated that she received fees from 20 dealers which is typical of previous years' responses. She also pointed out the critical need to get member commitments to help with the show. Harvey agreed and mentioned that extra volunteers will be needed if the MCC Geology Club isn't available again for the kids' activities. There was some discussion about a volunteer sign-up sheet, whether the geology club would be at the show, who |

Peralta Stone Loan Request Phil introduced Philip Reinhardt, a Board Member of the Superstition Mountain Historical Society. Mr. Reinhardt proposed that the Foundation loan the Peralta Stones to the Superstition Mountain Museum. He also described a book that he was publishing on the subject and his desire to foster more respect for the stone maps. He shared his experiences in researching the artifacts along with negative remarks concerning his personal dealings with the Mesa Southwest Museum (now the Arizona Museum of Natural History). He added that the loan needed to be completed before Nov. 1 for an upcoming book signing event. Specifically, a commitment was needed to move forward with publicity plans where the Peralta Stones may be delivered by stagecoach to the Superstition Mountain Museum.
Mr. Reinhardt did not prepare a written loan agreement, so members asked questions regarding the details of the proposal:
Loan period would be 1-2 years. No insurance would be offered since the Superstition |
