March 2007 Regular Meeting Minutes (Draft) Arizona Mineral and Mining Museum Foundation March 8, 2007
Attendees:Lavone Archer, Shirley Coté, Darrel Dodd, Doug Duffy, Ray Grant, Jack & Genie Howell, Harvey Jong, Chuck Kominski, Doug Lindsay, Bill Yedowitz Ray Grant called the meeting to order. A. Minutes of the January Meeting (See newsletter) Ray asked for comments on the Minutes. No corrections were suggested. Doug Duffy moved to approved the Minutes. Genie Howell seconded the motion. The motion passed.
B. Treasurer's Report (Darrel Dodd)
Darrel reported that the Foundation's finances are in good shape and that some money from the checking account was recently moved to investments. He also indicated that some major expenses are coming up.
C. Committee Reports
1. Collection Committee (Bill Yedowitz) Bill announced the acquisition of some new mineral specimens:
Mexican Mimetite from a recent find Blue Smithsonite from the Silver Bill mine Malachite after Azurite from the Silver Bill mine Pink Smithsonite from Mexico
The mimetite was purchased during the Flagg Show, while the Silver Bill smithsonite and malachite after azurite were part of the Fogg Collection purchase. The pink smithonsite was obtained last Fall. He indicated that other minerals from the Fogg Collection will be used for the silent auction at the Symposium. Darrel mentioned that he visited Mrs. Fogg to help clean out a shed with some miscellaneous materials, but none of the items were worth keeping. Bill reported phenomenal mineral sales at the Flagg Show. This has depleted the supply of good specimens, and he called for more donations. He indicated that a work day at the trailer will be scheduled in April. This session will focus on sorting and organizing remaining materials and culling out lesser quality items that haven't sold.

There was some discussion on the Flagg Show souvenir loupes that sold out during the show. Comments/concerns included the number of loupes to order, an early start on preparing the kits, a generic sticker design, and building up a supply of micromount specimens. Bill described a second thank you letter that he received from a previous Kids Corner prize winner. This note was in response to a package that was mailed for an earlier thank you card. a. Next meeting Tuesday, March 27 at 6:45PM 2. Website www.AZMinFun.com also www.flaggshow.info Ray requested updating the website with the new Flagg Show dates and posting a dealer contract. 3. Newsletter (Steve Decker) No update. 4. Symposium - 2007 - Saturday, March 10 a. Registration Ray reported that a record number of registrations have been received. There will be over 80 people between attendees, speakers, and workers. He asked about adding extra chairs in the classroom. b. Silent Auction See Collection Committee. 5. Field Trips a. Silver King - March 11 Ray described the post-Symposium field trip. It will be held on Sunday, March 11 at the Silver King mine near Superior. Collecting will be allowed for a couple hours, while the mine owner will provide some history. Copies of the book on the Silver King will also be available. b. Ray mine Chuck Kominski indicated that he has been checking into a trip to the Ray mine. He mentioned that a limited number of weekend trips are now available. However, these visits must be planned in advance, depend on the availability of a mine employee, and are limited to 20-25 people and 3-4 high clearance vehicles. There was some discussion on arranging one or more trips and a sign-up procedure. c. Ideas and volunteers needed to organize field trips. Chuck mentioned some efforts for a possible trip to the Christmas mine and that he contacted BHP for other potential opportunities. Ray commented that past attempts in contacting Phelps Dodge about
