Arizona Mineral and Mining Museum Foundation News

Volume 17 Number 2                             In Memory of A. L. Flagg                                             Spring 2007

The Arizona Mineral and Mining Museum Foundation was formed to support the Arizona Mining and Mineral Museum.

Fifteenth Minerals of Arizona Symposium
The Symposium will be presented March 10th, 2007 at the Arizona Mining and Mineral Museum, 15th Avenue and Washington, in Phoenix. Free parking will be found at the rear of the Museum (registration form and  information on page 9).

Symposium Field Trip

There will be a field trip to the Silver King mine near Superior on Sunday, March 11, 2007 for the symposium participants.
The details for the trip (meeting time and place) will be given out at the symposium. We don't have all the details now as this has just been arranged, but it is assumed that we will collect on the dumps and some of the outcrops in the area.

First Fridays at the Museum
The Museum will be open from 6 PM to 10 PM on the first Friday of each month from January to May 2007.
The Foundation will have members present so that the Flagg Mineral Gallery can be open. This would be a good opportunity to come to the Museum look at the exhibits and spend some time looking at the Foundation collection.  Next dates will be March 2nd, April 6th and May 4th.

Special Joint Meeting with the Mineralogical  Society of Arizona
March 9, 2007 at 7 PM at the Arizona Mining and Mineral Museum, 15th Avenue and Washington in Phoenix (park at the rear of the Museum).
Professor Zhu and Dr. Xu from the University of China Museum of Geosciences at Wuhan will pres

ent a program about China.
The Arizona Mining and Mineral Museum and the Yifu Museum of the University have established a joint agreement to exchange specimens, visits, information, display  technologies, and to jointly organize exhibitions.
Plan to attend this interesting evening. Refreshments will be served.

Flagg Show Thanks
Thanks to all the following for their efforts at the Flagg Show in January. They all helped to make this the best Flagg Show ever.
People helped to haul all the sales material, exhibit cases, tables and other material to and from the trailer. They helped with the sales booth, brought food for lunch, and helped clean up.
A very special thanks must be given to
Marc and Sue Fleischer for the second year of outstanding publicity.
Others who gave great efforts and good cheer are:
Jack and Genie Howell, Lavone Archer, Harvey Jong, Bill Yedowitz, Darrel Dodd, Larrey Dodd, Phil, Kathleen, Erica and Alison Richardson, Dana and Brenda Slaughter, John Mooney, Bob Jones, Carol Jones, Tony Occhuizzi, John Weide, Mike Shannon, Steve Decker, Chuck Kominski, Diann Knipp, Frank Knipp Jr., and all of those we may have missed
     Heartfelt thanks to
Micah Black, Dana Slaughter's nephew from the Chicago area.  He was a great help, especially with the Kid's minerals.  Lavonne lavished praise upon him and I understand Micah very much enjoyed himself.
