Regular Meeting Minutes

2. Other new business
China Trip
Dr. Changming Hu described the start of a relationship between the YiFu Museum in Wuhan, China; the AZ Mining and Mineral Museum; and the Foundation. An exchange program involving mineral specimens and personal visits is planned where the YiFu Museum curator and a university Vice President will travel to Tucson and Phoenix in early February. A reciprocal trip to China involving Museum staff and Foundation members is being organized.  Dr. Hu provided a flyer on this trip which is tentatively planned for Sept. or Oct. The 14-day itinerary includes visits to:

  • Beijing
  • Wuhan (Hubei)
  • Three Gorges and Yangtze River
  • Chang Sha (Hunan)
  • Guangxi
Travel costs will depend on the number of participants, and a meeting will be held this spring to discuss further details.
Minerals of Arizona, 2nd edition
Neil Bearce announced the publication of the second edition of his book,
Minerals of Arizona.
3. Next Regular Meeting Thursday, March 9, 7pm
This meeting will feature a program by Bob Jones (schedule permitting).

Adjournment

With no further business to discuss, Les moved to adjourn the meeting, while Doug seconded the motion. The motion passed.

D. Nominating Committee Report and Election of Board Members

Ray asked the Nominating Committee for the slate of candidates for Board Members and Officers. Board Member candidates included incumbents whose terms expire in 2006:

  • Stan Celestian
  • Robert Jones
  • Harvey Jong
  • John Lucking
  • Phil Richardson
  • Bill Yedowitz
Doug Duffy moved to approve the above Board Member nominations. Les Presmyk seconded the motion. The motion passed.

A recommendation was made to nominate current Foundation Officiers for another term in their respective positions:
  • Ray Grant, Chairman
  • Phil Richardson, Vice-Chairman
  • Darrel Dodd, Treasurer
  • Harvey Jong, Secretary
  • Lavone Archer, Corresponding Secretary
Les moved to approve the above Officer nominations. Doug seconded the motion. The motion passed.

E. Old Business

1. Any old business
Shirley Coté brought up the proposal of donating the sphere and bowl collections to the Museum. Ray suggested deferring consideration of the idea until he had a chance to research the original documents/conditions relating to these collections and to consult with Susan Celestian.

F. New Business

1. Museum Volunteers
Ray recognized the individuals who volunteered at the Museum for 100 hours or more during the past year. These volunteers are automatically extended a Foundation membership. Shirley stated that in 2005 28 volunteers have contributed more than 100 hours for a total of 8038 hours. She added that there was a total of 132 volunteers, while the overall total volunteer hours was 9846.
