2006 Annual Meeting Minutes (Draft)
Arizona Mineral and Mining Museum Foundation
January 5, 2006

Attendees: Lavone Archer, Neil Bearce, Shirley Coté, Darrel Dodd, Doug Duffy, Steve Dulla, Marc Fleischer, Cynthia & Ray Grant, Randal Heath, Glenn J. The meeting was called to order by Ray Grant.

A. Minutes of the November Meeeting

Ray asked for corrections to the draft minutes as published in the Newsletter. No changes were suggested. Doug Duffy moved to approve the minutes, while Tony Occhiuzzi seconded the motion. The motion passed.

B. Treasurer's Report (Darrel Dodd)

Darrel provided a quick summary of the Foundation's accounts and investments.

C. Committee Reports

1. Collection Committee (Bill Yedowitz)
Ray recognized Bill in leading the efforts for the Flagg Gallery makeover and recommended members visit the room if they haven't done so in the past 3-4 months.  Bill reviewed the committee's accomplishments of the past year:

  • Reorganized gallery cases
  • Framed and mounted Flagg Show posters
  • Completed and documented specimen inventory
  • Corrected and generated new set of specimen labels
  • Sorted and priced minerals for sales
            and outlined projects for the new year:
  • Correcting/updating the collection database
  • Attaching id numbers to specimens
He thanked members for their time, effort and mineral donations. Bill invited anyone interested in helping with the collection to attend future meetings.

Harvey Jong reported on some recent site updates

which included the annual New Year's mineral ball animation. The 2006 ball is a Barite rose. He requested help in locating orb-shaped specimens to continue the "tradition". Bill pointed out that the collection pages need to be updated.
3. Newsletter (Steve Decker)
Ray mentioned that Steve wasn't able to attend because he is vacationing in Hawaii.
4. Symposium - 2006 - Saturday, March 11
Ray pointed out that the Symposium will be held earlier this year in March. He handed out registration forms and mentioned that there will be a number of interesting talks, including the origins of banded malachite and azurite and the development of a handheld Raman spectrometer.
5. Field Trips
Ray asked for any ideas and volunteers to help organize future trips. He indicated that he is still working on arrangements for a trip after the Symposium. He also plans to revisit a possible Red Cloud trip by talking directly with the mine owner during the Tucson Show.
6. Flagg Show - 2006 - January 6, 7, 8
Ray asked members to help by either working at the tables during the show or assisting with clean-up activities on Sunday afternoon.
Ray recognized Marc Fleischer for handling show publicity this year. Marc summarized some of the publicity spots:

  • Live 8-10 a.m. broadcast on Channel 12's Sunday Morning News
  • Studio session for Channel 3's Good Morning Arizona program
  • Listing and article in the Arizona Republic's The Rep section
  • Article in Arizona Living section in Saturday's Arizona Republic
  • Write-ups in Phoenix and Phoenix Home & Garden magazines
7. Flagg Distinguished Service Award (Genie Howell)
Genie reminded members that an award nomination form is in the Newsletter and that the deadline for submitting nominations is Feb. 1st. The award will be presented at the Symposium.
