Arizona Mineral and Mining Museum Foundation News

Volume 16 Number 2                       In Memory of A. L. Flagg                                                  Spring 2006

The Arizona Mineral and Mining Museum Foundation was formed to support the Arizona Mining and Mineral Museum.

Kids, Kids, Kids
There were many families with children at this year's Flagg Show.  Some dealers had free samples or special items for kids.
The MCC Geology Club had their usual great program for children and had hundreds participate in the activities.
Mardy Zimmerman sold a record number of egg carton collections at the Flagg Show (587 of them). The previous record was 325. Many people were
asking about them because of the television coverage. She had 290 different kinds of rocks, minerals, and fossils to choose from - what a dilemma -so many choices.
One Foundation volunteer worked almost full time during the show to just take care of the material that the Foundation was giving to kids.
Thanks to everyone who helped with the children's activities. Getting children interested in Science and minerals is one of the Foundation and Flagg Show's major goals.

Marc and Sue Fleischer, who helped organize the Flagg Show publicity, pose in front of the Channel 12 News broadcast van.  Foundation  Chairman Ray  Grant and all the Foundation Members extend  a special Thank You for  their efforts!

Flagg Show on Television
Channel 12 (KPNX) reported live from the Flagg Show on Sunday, January 8. This is the first time we had television coverage at the show.
During the two-hour program they covered the Peralta Stones, some mineral dealers and Mardy Zimmerman's egg carton collections.
The Foundation owes a great deal of thanks to Sue and Marc Fleischer for arranging the television coverage. There was also an in studio spot on Channel 3 (KTVK) and a lot of newspaper coverage which they organized.
     Thank you, Sue and Marc!

Important Notice:
The Foundation has five meetings a year. The Trustees meet four times a year and there is the annual membership meeting in January.
Members are invited to all the meetings. To have more member participation, we are going to have talks at some of the meetings and spend less time on business.
The first meeting with a talk will be Thursday March 9 at 7 PM at the Museum. Bob Jones will present "The Desmond Sacco Collection of South Africa".  Hope to see you there.
