Trailer Stope Receives Some
"Super-Jeanne Enrichment"

By Harvey Jong
Over the past few years, the mineral reserves of the trailer "stope" have been severely depleted by successful Foundation mineral sales. Members along with the general public have added many wonderful specimens to their collections from this rich source of donated materials. New "deposits" of minerals need to be located to continue the tradition of raising funds for the Foundation and supplying interesting specimens. This article describes the discovery of one new deposit.
Jeanne Youell, whose late husband was a geologist, had a storage shed full of old mineral samples. She recently decided to donate these materials to the Foundation, and Bill Yedowitz and Dick Zimmermann went to Wenden, Arizona to accept the donation. They returned with Dick's trailer full of rocks.

Bill climbs into the trailer to get "up close and personal" with the rocks.

for Foundation projects. Members are encouraged to contribute extra/unwanted specimens from their collections and explore other possible sources for donations.

There may be a sample of eriochalcite on this big hunk of ore sitting in my yard.  I hope so!

Additional Mineral for AZ Mineral List
By Ray Grant
Dr. Peter Williams from Sydney, Australia has identified a new mineral for the Arizona Mineral list. It is eriochalcite a hydrated copper  chloride.
It was collected at the ASARCO Sacaton mine on our field trip in March 2004 after the Minerals of Arizona Symposium. It occurs as a pale blue-green crust with dark green brochantite on a vein of pyrite partially replaced by chalcocite.
If you were on the field trip look at your samples. But if you washed them the eriochalcite will be gone, as it is very water-soluble.

Bill and Les start sorting.

Bill scheduled a work day at the Foundation trailer to sort the donation. Workers included Bill, Dick, Les Presmyk, and myself. We spent several hours unpacking boxes and unwrapping specimens from old newspapers. Included here are some photos of the grand unloading.
The trailer stope has received some much needed enrichment with this donation, but many more mineral deposits need to be found to keep up with the growing demand for specimens and funds
