13th Annual Minerals of AZ Symposium

By Steve Decker

This year's Symposium was a lot of fun.  The Foundation brought together friends old and new  to create a wonderful opportunity for learning and socializing.
Jim McGlasson told of Richard Bideaux' life-long predilection to illuminate the mysteries of the mineral kingdom.
Anna  Domitrovic told us about the mineral collection of  Richard Bideaux, and of special specimens that are now found in mineral collections around the Nation.
The personal anecdotes and memories of Dick shared by Jim, Anna, Les Presmyk, and

Dick Zimmerman gave us some great information about the formation of pegmatites, focusing on the Zimmerman's own Midnight Owl Mine.  We are very lucky to have Dick and Mardy to share their knowledge as well as the fruits of their mining property with us.

Ray Grant added new dimensions of humor and humanity to the quiet man most Foundation members only knew from his frequent Symposium presentations.
A proclamation signed by Governor Janet Napolitano recognized Richard Bideaux's substantial contributions to mineralogy.  This certificate was presented to Richard's sister Janet during the symposium.
