Foundation Initiates Pilot Program to Support Museum Fieldtrips By Steve Decker
At our November 13 meeting, the Foundation Board decided to help underwrite transportation costs for teachers wishing to bring their students to the Museum for a fieldtrip. A donation of $250 was presented to Arrowhead Elementary School in north Phoenix for this purpose. We are hoping to determine how to best qualify deserving schools to participate in this program. We have initially set these guidelines:
1. Title One schools will be given preference. 2. We hope that the funds will be augmented with money raised at the school, to provide assistance to the maximum number of students. 3. Students will be allowed to purchase merchandise from the Museum shop.
Dr. Trish Dolasinski, the Principal of Arrowhead School, is very appreciative of the Foundation's desire to help students learn about the Earth Sciences. "Dr. D" has always strongly supported our work with the Arrowhead Geology Club, and promises to help us find the schools and criteria to help the most deserving students with this new program.
