The Arizona Mineral and Mining Museum Foundation was formed to support the Arizona Mining and Mineral Museum.

Family Day 2003 a Great Success!

The 2003 Museum Family Day was a very enjoyable event, thanks to the efforts of our Museum staff and many volunteers.  Kids who attended were able to make pet rocks, jewelry, and the Leaverites sold egg cartons w/12 minerals for $1.

The prospecting clubs who meet at the museum provided coin shooting with metal detectors and gold panning for young people.

These activities were very popular, and the kids were delighted with the opportunity to find real gold!
Arrowhead Geology Club member Michael Duddy brought his dad Tom to enjoy the activities and show off some of his knowledge about rocks and minerals.

Volunteers demonstrated faceting, lapidary arts, and wire wrapping, and free specimens were given to kids of all ages.

The Foundation presented a fair selection of minerals for sale, thanks to the generosity of members, who donated speci

mens that had been hidden from the light of day in garages and storage rooms.
Dealers set up shop upstairs.  Alison and Erica Richardson showed Alice Held their stock of family-

collected specimens. Dave Douglass, Dana Slaughter and Changming Hu displayed their unique selections of colorful minerals from around the world.

This Family Day was well organized, well attended (450 people came), and successfully executed by the Museum's dedicated volunteers.   We will be looking forward to the next Family Day in February, 2004.
