Anna Domitrovic Wins Flagg Award. By Ray Grant Anna Domitrovic, Curator of Earth Sciences and Mineralogist, was given the A.L. Flagg Distinguished Service Award for 2003. Anna has worked in the geology and mineralogy departments of the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum for 25 years and has been tireless in her efforts to build the collection of minerals from the Sonora Desert region. This is reflected in the size and scope of the collection at the Museum.
Anna has been active in the Arizona Geological Society and has held several positions including president in 1992. She is also active in the Tucson Gem and Mineral Society where she has held many offices and currently is membership secretary.
Anna has given talks at all eleven Minerals of Arizona Symposiums (a record that only she holds) on a great range of topics from Arizona pseudomorphs to the micromount collection at the ASDM. This year she was co-chairperson and host of one of our best Symposiums. She is always willing to have exhibits at minerals shows and has traveled to Phoenix numerous times to put exhibits in club shows. She is also willing to travel around the state to give talks
Bob Jones spoke on the popularity of Turquoise.
After the Symposium, we went to the University of Arizona to view the mineral collection. What a collection! I saw Legrandites like I had never seen before except in books and magazines. The Mexican and Arizona minerals in this collection are certainly among the finest in the world. And yes, I finally got to see the gold specimen found on the dumps at Tiger that I had heard so much about. This 11th Symposium was one to be remembered, a great time spent with good friends, enjoying one of
for club programs.
Anna has both professionally and on a volunteer basis embodied what A. L. Flagg did for sharing this hobby with others, and has promoted the goals of the Foundation.
