this award together in one place. Ray Grant, Marc Watson, Les Presmyk, Anna Domitrovic, and Ben Benham graciously posed for our cameras.
The Silent Auction was a great success, with some very valuable specimens bringing a good price into the Foundation's treasury, but still being won for bids far below going market rates. Lovely Red Cloud and Los Lamentos Wulfenites in large cabinet sizes, Danburite with Calcite from Los Lamentos, Topaz from San Louis Potosi, Mexico and Utah, USA were snapped up by delighted collectors. I picked up a real sleeper, a sharply terminated pale amethyst crystal from near Patagonia, Arizona, that later proved to have a two phase inclusion of a

describing the giant ground sloth's dung as being composed of Mormon tea. I found this amusing, a sloth eating the American variety of the stimulant herb Ephedra. I wondered how slow he would go without it! After the gathering ended, several members of the Foundation met at our room at the Inn for fried chicken and more conversation.
The next morning we were up bright and early, eagerly looking forward to the Symposium. Darrel and I had the minerals for the silent Auction, including some specimens collected at the Foundation's fieldtrip to the Fat Jack Mine. A copy of the Rock and Gem Magazine that documented that trip was to be auctioned off with a specimen of amethyst illustrated in the story. (We are sure getting a lot of mileage out of that trip!) We appreciate the many valuable specimens were donated for the auction by Les and Paula Presmyk, Dave Douglass, Ron Gibbs, and others.

Les, as Chairman of the Foundation, led us through some of the most exciting years of our history, and Anna has supported the Foundation by speaking at every symposium since it's inception, an unequalled record. At the break, we had a rare opportunity to photograph all five of the recipients of
