Chairman's Letter by Ray Grant
It seems that the Museum is safe for this budget year, but we need to be vigilant to see what will happen in the future. Thanks for the hard work and efforts by all the clubs, club members, museum volunteers and anyone else who wrote, called, and contacted their representatives.
To help in getting all the groups together that use the Museum, we are going to list all the clubs that meet at the Museum in the newsletter and highlight one each month. We are beginning with the Mineralogical Society of Arizona because it was founded by A. L. Flagg and of course this Foundation was started in his memory. A. L. Flagg was the first President of MSA and served for about 15 years. The second President was Ben Benham, a life member of the Foundation and winner of the A. L. Flagg Distinguished Service Award in 2000. Any club that would like to have material printed in this newsletter please contact Steve Decker. Our newsletter goes to about 200 people by mail and is given out at the Museum. We are also trying to get more Museum news in the newsletter, like the new "Curator's Corner" feature found on page 3.
The Eleventh Annual Minerals of Arizona Symposium held in Tucson last month was great. We owe a big thanks to Anna Domitrovic for her hard work and hospitality. Seeing the minerals in the "vault" at the Friday open house was a real treat. Also, a thanks to Terry Wallace for letting us visit

the University of Arizona Collection on Saturday night. I had forgotten how really good that collection is, especially its Arizona material. Thanks also to all the speakers, and Foundation members who helped with symposium. A special thanks to Lavone Archer and Harvey Jong for assembling the symposium proceedings and to Harvey for the art work on the cover. Plan to attend the Twelfth Annual Symposium on March 27, 2004 at the Museum.
I am sorry that not everyone got to go on the field trip on Sunday after the symposium, but there was only a set number who could go. I have the necessary information and we will schedule a Silver Bell trip for Foundation members in the Fall. Don't forget the Blanchard mine, New Mexico trip on May 10 and 11. See the information on page 6, as there has been a slight change in the trip. There have been some requests for a field trip after the symposium next year so we will work on that.
We will have a work session before the Regular Meeting on May 8, to stuff the envelopes for the dealers for next year's Flagg Show. We will start at 6:00 p.m. and will have pizza for the helpers, then the business meeting will start at 7:00 p.m.
The Collection Committee is starting up again, so if you are interested in working on the Foundation collection, please come to a meeting. Donn Cuson is the new Chairperson. The next meeting will be Monday, May 5 (be in the museum before 6:45). If you have questions you can email Donn at dcuson@yahoo.com.
