3. Economic Geology Collection: Ray reported that a committee in Tucson along with the Tucson Club is organizing the transfer of the Lindgren Economic Geology Collection to Arizona. He indicated that the Foundation has 35 boxes of economic geology materials, and it may be appropriate to donate these specimens in support of the Tucson effort. He will check into this and provide an update at the next Board Meeting.
4. Other New Business: Darrel proposed that Jay Hayes take a look at the Peralta Stones and put together sketches/estimate for a display case for housing these artifacts.
5. Next Board Meeting - Thursday Sept. 19, 2002

Adjournment

With no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned.

Five Years of Editing The Arizona
Mineral and Mining Museum News
By Steve Decker

Foundationers and Friends, this issue marks the beginning of my sixth year as your newsletter editor.  Soon you will not be able to drive me away by throwing rocks at me, and in fact, that is what drew me here in the first place.

In Volume 6, number 7, the first issue I edited after Lois Splendoria gave me the reins of this publication, I wrote:

"This is Our Newsletter.

What shall we make of it?"

I think we have answered that question quite admirably.  We have written about the people that have brought us into the study of minerals and Geology.  We have told stories about collecting in the beautiful state of Arizona and elsewhere.  We have set goals and objectives for our Foundation and seen them through to completion.  We have organized field trips and mineral shows, educational symposiums and family day activities for the people of Arizona.  We have supported the Arrowhead Geology Club with gifts and donations of minerals, display cases, and our time.

For your editor, this job has been one of the most rewarding assignments of my life.  It has given me a "press card" that has allowed me to be involved with the people who really make this hobby, or study, or business, of mineral collecting keep moving.  People like Bob Jones, Ray Grant, Les Presmyk, and so many others have opened new ideas to me.  These friends have taken the time to help me understand how science, practical collecting techniques, bureaucratic wrangling, and the business of mineral dealing go together to create a hobby that educates and enriches us all.

To you, the Members of the Arizona Mineral and Mining Museum Foundation, I say "Thanks!"
