Collection Committee News
By Christine Siler

We have received a wonderful donation from Gene and Roz Meieran.  We have picked out some specimens for display in the front side of the last case by the front door of the Museum. They should be in place by the September meeting. Come and see....

We are making progress in many areas. We have a new mineral database program installed and running on the computer in our room. This is a custom program created by one of our members, Randall Siler, so we are able to have it totally customized to our wants and needs. Cindie Smith will do data entry for us. Soon we will have the computer hooked up to the internet though C&R Productions, who will house our database for archive purposes, ready availability, and back-ups.

We are creating a trade zone - minerals we set aside for trade to help us leverage our buying power. These minerals are duplicated in our collection by better specimens, or don't fit our primary objective of featuring high quality Arizona specimens.

We have a plan for new display cases.  As you know,  we are out of space in the Flagg Memorial Gallery, though our wonderful collection keeps growing. We have come up with this design concept:

Starting below the current cases (which are large on top going small to the bottom), we will place new cases that will be small on top going to large on the bottom. On the large bottom shelves we can display our large specimens more safely. We expect to double our displaying power without overstuffing our cases.

We are also  looking for a bookcase for our collections of magazines and books.

We  need updated email addresses so we can contact you when activities come up at the last minute!   Please send your email address to Lavone (elabaso4@cox.com) or Christine (christine@crprod.com), and we will put you on the notification list.

I hope our members will come and see what we are doing and get involved.  We have a lot to do and can always use the help and company.  We have a good time at the Collection Committee meetings!  The times and dates are listed in the Upcoming Events section on Page 2 of each newsletter.
