Hello, Foundationers!
This is the true beginning of the Second Millennium, and we are continuing to make steady progress toward our goals. Wonderful people have made Mineral Specimen donations of great beauty and high quality in the past year. The treasures in your collection rival that of a Royal House. However, our finest asset remains our Membership, people who provide Foundation with a range of talents and connections to our community that directly translate to opportunities to serve that community.
In addition to supporting the programs of the Museum, the Foundation is serving education by sponsoring a Geology Club at Arrowhead Elementary School that meets bi-weekly. Our Scholarship program is benefiting deserving students of the Earth Sciences with funds for tuition and books to further their studies.
I have heard that our venture with the Tucson Show posters is working out very well, providing a good source of funding. This enterprise was greatly facilitated by the Business acumen and untiring efforts of our Chairman, Les Presmyk, and valuable legal advice of Board Member Paul Harter. Thank them when you see them! The cooperation between The Foundation and the Tucson Gem and Mineral Society is an example of a direction we must continue to explore. If we don't stick together, Government Bureaucracies and apathy will surely erode our Hobby and it's potential to inspire

new generations of Earth Scientists, and our society will suffer.
The Collection Committee is working with our collection on a regular basis, and has plans to improve many displays with new stands made by Jay Hayes. We also want make our labeling more harmonious with these classy stands. We will continue to update and evaluate the lovely specimens that we are charged to protect, and maintain records to preserve their provenance as well as we may. Sometimes, as our work requires, some lucky ones among us may even get to hold these lovely objects , observing their hidden features and nuances from otherwise unattainable angles. There is always room for you dedicated members with Monday evenings free from 6:55 p.m. to about 9:00 to join the party. Try it! It is certainly more fun than work!
In the coming months we will be discussing the possibility of making fundamental changes to our Flagg Show at Mesa Community College. We will need your participation and leadership to make sure that it will continue to be an enjoyable and profitable Show for Mineral Merchants, Crazy Prospectors and regular mineral lovers in the coming Century. We also must share the work, Ray Can't Do it All! Come to the meetings and help keep your Foundation on course.
